Emeritus Professor, Missouri S&T
Madison Daily was born in Oklahoma City in 1932. He was a graduate of the US Naval Academy in 1954. Following graduation he entered the Air Force and served twenty-five years before retiring as a Colonel in 1979. He served in the space programs and his last two assignments were as Director of Space and Ballistic Missiles for Air Force Systems Command and Assistant Deputy Director of Military Satellite Operations for the Defense Communications Agency. In 1971, he opened the USAF ROTC (Det 441) at UMR.
After retiring from the Air Force, he returned to UMR, enrolled in Engineering Management and in 1984 obtained the first Eng. Mgmt. Ph.D. granted. He was hired to teach in the Engineering Management Department. He was noted for the use of technology on television and the Web. He had the first fully web-based course in the state of Missouri.
He received over a quarter of a million dollars from IBM to install two advanced technology classrooms. He received eight consecutive outstanding teaching awards from the National Technology University for his classes broadcasted on the television and the Web. He was a charter member of the UM Technology in the Classroom Board and a consultant to the MO Board of Higher Education. Dr. Daily was selected to be the Koplar Professor. He retired in 1999, as an Emeritus Professor.
He is the past President of the UMR Retirees Association and the Golden Shileighly. He is currently the Vice Chairman of the Rolla Housing Authority Board. He is a member of Rotary Club and has been a volunteer in the AARP Tax Aide program for the past 5 years.
